If Portland is to be a great city, "sustainability" must go beyond our infrastructure, transit and green space. It must be the cornerstone of our education system. We want to be known not just as the "greenest" city in America, but the most "educated".

To create a sustainable system of education, we must work together both inside -- and outside -- the classroom to keep our kids in school. An educational collaboration is the only way that we can achieve that goal. Here are two great opportunities to do so:

The "Uniting for Excellence and Equity in Education" Summit will gather key stakeholders, funders, and community members to discuss and determine how we can achieve excellence through intentional collaboration, cross-sector alignment and action that builds off the work of the Education Cabinet, and other leadership initiatives.

With a specific lens on high school graduation and post-secondary access, Mayor Sam Adams and Multnomah Chair Ted Wheeler will address how you can add your voice, energy, and commitment to this effort.

When students drop out of high school, it affects everyone in our community - Businesses, Government, Students, and Families.

Help spread the word, please forward this e-mail to interested folks in your networks.
